This is a 5-day, 4-night tour that begins in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. On the first day, you will take a city tour visiting the Temple of Koricancha, the Temple of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and the Temple of Tambomachay. On the second day, you will visit the Salt Mines in Maras and the Archaeological Complex of Moray. The third day includes a tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where you will visit the town of Pisac and the Inca city of Ollantaytambo before taking the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo. The fourth day is dedicated to visiting the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu with a guide and free time to explore on your own. The fifth day is a free day in Machu Picchu Pueblo before returning to Cusco by train. This tour offers a comprehensive experience of the culture and history of the Incas in the Cusco region, as well as the opportunity to visit one of the wonders of the world, Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Welcome to Cusco - Hotel accommodation + CITY TOUR
- Reception at the airport.
- Transfer to the selected hotel. You will have free time to acclimate and avoid altitude-related issues.
- In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m., we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our visit.
- We will visit the following sites:
- The Temple of Koricancha, an important enclosure that houses the finest examples of Inca construction and where the Sun god “Inti” was worshipped.
- Sacsayhuaman Temple, strategically located to offer a panoramic view of the city of Cusco. Sacsayhuaman is famous for its enormous polished and molded stones, some of which are 9m / 30ft tall and weigh 350 tons. These immense stones were joined together with incredible precision.
- Qenqo, a center of worship dedicated to the Puma god and the site of religious sacrifices.
- Puca Pucara, known as the “red fortress” due to the color its rocks take on during twilight. It was also a military center during the Inca period.
- Tambomachay Temple, a site dedicated to the worship of water.
- Return to the main square (Plaza de Armas) and overnight stay at a hotel in Cusco.
Day 2: Maras (Salt Mines) - Moray
- At approximately 8:15 am, we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our excursion.
- We will head towards the town of Maras, enjoying the beautiful Andean landscape along the way. It’s a journey that connects you with traditional aspects. Maras is a traditional, colonial, and republican town known for its impressive doorways. From the Maras plateau, you can appreciate the whimsical formations of the Andean mountain range, including snow-capped peaks like La Verónica.
- Near the traditional town of Maras, we will find the Salt Mines, composed of small pools numbering more than 3,500. Through the evaporation process, salt is obtained from these pools. The mines have been exploited since pre-Inca times.
- Next, we will visit the Archaeological Complex of Moray, located 7 km from Maras. It consists of enormous concentric terraces that served as an agricultural experimentation center and a site associated with fertility.
Day 3: Tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas
- On our second day, at approximately 7:50 am, we will pick you up from your hotel. We will depart from the city of Cusco towards the natural storehouse of the Incas, traversing part of the sacred Vilcanota or Urubamba River. This day will allow us to get to know the customs of the local population.
- During our tour, we will visit the picturesque colonial mestizo town of Pisac. This town is also home to one of the Inca cities that captures the attention of many visitors.
- Next, we will head to another town for lunch, where you will enjoy a meal prepared with local products.
- Our next stop is Ollantaytambo, known as the “Living Inca City.” This city was built with the purpose of administrating and monitoring possible invasions. After our visit to this important site, you will have the opportunity to walk through the narrow streets of the town and get a clear idea of its urban layout.
- Finally, we will head to the Ollantaytambo train station to board the train that will transport us to the town of Machu Picchu.
- At around 7:00 pm, we will take the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes). Around 8:45 pm, we will arrive in Machu Picchu and transfer you to your hotel. You will spend the night in Machu Picchu Pueblo.
- During the tour, we will also visit the following places:
- Pisac: a picturesque colonial mestizo town and an Archaeological Center with impressive mountain architecture.
- Urubamba: We will stop in Urubamba to enjoy a buffet lunch prepared with local products.
- Ollantaytambo: We will have the opportunity to visit the “Living Inca City” of Ollantaytambo, which showcases remarkable constructions and served as an administrative center for the region.
- Chinchero: A textile village that has maintained its traditional craft for generations. Finally, we will return to Cusco.
Day 4: Machu Picchu
- After a good rest in the town of Machu Picchu and receiving instructions from our guide, according to the scheduled visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, we will head to the Bus Station. The bus ride will take approximately 45 minutes and will ascend 400 meters in altitude to reach the wonder of the world, Machu Picchu.
- Upon arriving at the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, we will begin our experience with our guide, visiting the most important places such as temples, plazas, astronomical centers, and other sectors for approximately 3 hours.
- After the visit, you have the optional opportunity to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain, which requires an additional entrance ticket. This will add to your exploration of the Inca city.
- After our experience exploring the Inca city, we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival at Ollantaytambo station, our transfer will be waiting to take us back to the city of Cusco. You will spend the night in Cusco.
Day 5: Last Day
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- At the appropriate time, you will be transferred out, depending on the schedule of your flight.
