Reception at the airport and transfer to our office in Puerto Maldonado city. Luggage that is not needed during your stay in the rainforest can be stored in our warehouse to avoid transportation inconvenience. Boarding at the port towards our Lodge: a 40-minute navigation along the Madre de Dios River. Arrival at the Lodge facilities in the Amazon, where you will be welcomed with a refreshing natural fruit drink of the season. Your guide will provide necessary explanations for your stay and give you the keys to your bungalow. Afterward, you will have lunch and rest until the first excursion. For passengers arriving on flights after 1:00 PM, lunch will be served as a Box Lunch made with 100% recyclable materials. At 3:00 PM, our first activity in the rainforest begins. Visit to a Brazil nut camp. You will also visit a rubber tapper camp, one of the most important economic activities in the Madre de Dios region. You will witness the artisanal process of latex extraction, known as “jebe,” which is used for a variety of products. The trekking time for this activity is 2 hours. At 7:00 PM, before dinner, you will take a night boat ride for a fun “Caiman safari,” where you may also have the chance to observe other animals that inhabit the riverbanks.
We wake up at 5:30 AM to have a cup of coffee or hot infusion before heading to Lake Sandoval. The guide will provide you with a breakfast bag to be consumed during the excursion to Lake Sandoval. At 6:00 AM, after a 20-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River, we arrive at the dock of Lake Sandoval. We embark on a 3 km trek through the lush vegetation of the rainforest, entering the territory of Tambopata National Reserve. You will admire gigantic trees, snakes, monkeys (such as squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys), and birds (including herons, kingfishers, and anhingas). Once at Lake Sandoval, we will navigate in small rowing boats in search of river otters. We will also observe a variety of animals such as reptiles, mammals, and birds in their natural habitat. When the guide finds a suitable spot, we can enjoy our breakfast while observing nature in its full glory. On the way back, we will ensure that we have all our belongings and start the return trek to the Lake Sandoval dock. At 1:30 PM, we will return to the lodge for lunch. At 3:30 PM, we will visit one of the two observation towers available at Corto Maltes Amazonia. One tower is 20 meters high, and the other is 42 meters high. Both are designed for birdwatching and observing other species from above, and you can also enjoy a beautiful sunset (the guide will coordinate which tower to visit depending on passengers’ preferences). We will also visit a Brazil nut camp. Brazil nut is another important economic activity in the Madre de Dios region. You will have free time to enjoy the swimming pool or a massage, have a refreshing drink at our bar, or visit our boutique.
We wake up at 5:30 AM to have a hot coffee or infusion before heading out for a approximately 20-minute walk to the parrot clay lick. Here, you will be able to observe 3 to 5 species of parrots that come down to feed on a special clay found in certain areas of the region. This clay is essential for the birds’ metabolism and provides a truly marvelous and exciting display of colors. 8:00 AM: Breakfast and free time. After breakfast, we will transfer you to the city of Puerto Maldonado in our boats. At Puerto Bolívar, transportation will be waiting to take you to our office, and from there, we will continue to the local market for a short tour lasting around 15 to 20 minutes. During this visit, you will have the opportunity to see the different local products that the population relies on. After the market visit, we will proceed to the airport for your respective flight check-in.
8:00 AM: Breakfast. 9:00 AM: We will visit a native family from the Machiguenga ethnic group, one of the many ethnic groups in the Peruvian Amazon. They will show us part of the cultural value of their ancestors, their language, customs, traditional clothing, hunting techniques, handicrafts, and the music they play during the ayahuasca ceremony. They will demonstrate how they utilize natural products to make tools, their homes, clothing, and ornaments, all of which are important in their daily lives. 11:00 AM: After a 20-minute boat ride along the river, we will visit a local farm. This is a plot of land cared for by a local family. Here, we will recognize and even taste different tropical fruits of the season and other native products such as cacao, plantains, cocona, breadfruit, noni, yuca, and lime. This place belongs to a typical rural family in the area who carefully maintain some native plants that grow naturally and then sell them in the main market of Puerto Maldonado for consumption. 1:00 PM: We will return to the lodge for lunch. 2:00 PM: Back at the lodge, you will have time to rest and enjoy free time to visit the boutique, cool off in the swimming pool, have a cocktail at the bar, or indulge in a relaxing massage.
