The 6-day tourist package with the Inca Trail in Cusco offers a complete and exciting experience. The first day is dedicated to the City Tour, visiting highlights such as the Temple of Koricancha, the Temple of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and the Temple of Tambomachay. The second day includes a visit to Maras and the Salt Mines, as well as the archaeological complex of Moray. The third day is a tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, exploring the towns of Pisac and Ollantaytambo. The fourth day marks the beginning of the Inca Trail, with a hike from km 104 to Machu Picchu, passing through Chachabamba, Wiñaywayna, and Intipunku. The fifth day is the visit to Machu Picchu, where the main points of interest are explored with a guide. Finally, on the sixth day, the departure transfer is arranged. This itinerary combines the rich history and culture of the region with the incredible experience of walking along the ancient Inca Trail to the lost city of Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Welcome to Cusco + CITY TOUR
- Reception at the airport.
- Transfer to the selected hotel, you will have free time to acclimate and avoid altitude problems.
- In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m., we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our tour.
- We will visit the following places:
- The Temple of Koricancha, an important site that houses the best examples of its construction and where the god Sun, “Inti,” was worshipped.
- Sacsayhuaman Temple, strategically located with a panoramic view of the city of Cusco. Sacsayhuaman is famous for its enormous polished and shaped stones, some of which are 9m/30ft high and weigh 350 tons. These immense stones were joined with remarkable precision.
- Qenqo, a center of worship dedicated to the Puma god and a place where religious sacrifices were performed.
- Puca Pucara, known as the “red fortress” due to the color its rocks acquire during twilight. It was considered an Inca military center.
- Tambomachay Temple, a site dedicated to the worship of water.
- Return to the main square (Plaza de Armas) and overnight at the hotel in Cusco.
Day 2: Maras (Salt Mines) - Moray
- Around 8:15 am, we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our excursion to the town of Maras, enjoying the beautiful Andean landscape. It’s a journey to connect with the traditional aspects. Maras is a traditional, colonial, and republican town known as the city of doorways. From the Maras plateau, we can appreciate the whimsical formations of the Andean mountain range, including snow-capped peaks like La Verónica.
- Near the traditional town of Maras, we will visit the Salt Mines, composed of small wells, with over 3,500 of them. Through the process of evaporation, salt is obtained from these wells. These salt mines have been exploited since the pre-Inca era.
- Afterward, we will visit the archaeological complex of Moray, located 7 km from Maras. It consists of a set of enormous terraces that overlap concentrically. Its purpose was to serve as an agricultural experimentation center as well as a fertility site.
Day 3: Sacred Valley of the Incas Tour
- Around 7:50 am, we will pick you up from your hotel. Departure from the city of Cusco towards the natural storehouse of the Incas, as we travel along a portion of the sacred river Vilcanota or Urubamba. This day will allow us to get close to the customs of the local inhabitants.
- During our journey, we will visit the picturesque colonial mestizo town of Pisac. This town also houses one of the Inca cities that captivates many visitors.
- Next, we will head to another town for lunch, prepared with local products.
- Our next site to visit is Ollantaytambo, known as the “living Inca city.” This city was built for administrative purposes and to monitor potential invasions. After exploring this significant center, we will have the opportunity to walk through the narrow streets of the town and get a clear idea of its urban layout.
- To end the day, we will proceed to our accommodation in Ollantaytambo, where you can rest and prepare for the next day’s experience on the sacred path to Machu Picchu.
Day 4: Inca Trail (Full Day)
- We will depart from our accommodation at 5:15 am and head to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, we will board the train and make our way to km 104, where the Sacred Inca Trail begins. Upon arriving at km 104, we will go through identification and entrance permit checks, starting our walking experience and passing through archaeological sites such as Chachabamba, Wiñaywayna, and Intipunku. We will also witness other marvelous places along the way.
- This day will involve a trek of approximately 11 km, with a maximum altitude of 2750 meters above sea level. We will have the opportunity to walk on the original trail, following in the footsteps of our ancestors, which leads to the Inca city of Machu Picchu. In Wiñaywayna, after obtaining souvenirs, we will have our boxed lunch and continue until we reach Intipunku, where we will have the best chance to see Machu Picchu. Once at Machu Picchu, we will enjoy the best view and capture the iconic panoramic photograph.
- To end the day, we will descend to the bus station that will take us to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) for dinner and overnight stay. Night in Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes).
Day 5: Machu Picchu
After a good rest in the town of Machu Picchu and receiving instructions from our guide, we will head back to the bus station for a 45-minute approximate journey. We will ascend to the wonder of the world, Machu Picchu. Upon reaching the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, we will begin our experience with our guide, visiting the most important places such as temples, plazas, astronomical centers, and other sectors for approximately 3 hours. After our exploration of the Inca city, we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival at Ollantaytambo station, our transfer will be waiting to take us back to the city of Cusco. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 6: Last Day
Breakfast at the hotel. At the agreed-upon time, the departure transfer will be arranged, taking into account your flight schedule. End of service.
