The Colca Canyon is an impressive gorge located in the Arequipa region, in southern Peru. It is one of the deepest canyons in the world, with a depth of approximately 3,270 meters, and is home to many traditional Andean communities that have inhabited the area for centuries.
The canyon is known for its stunning natural landscape, which includes panoramic views of mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and valleys, as well as its abundant flora and fauna. Visitors can spot Andean condors, one of the largest birds in the world, as well as other species such as vicuñas, alpacas, and llamas.
The traditional villages along the canyon offer insight into Andean culture and the way of life of its inhabitants, who are primarily engaged in agriculture and craftsmanship. Some notable attractions in the Colca Canyon include the agricultural terraces of Chivay and Yanque, the La Calera hot springs, and the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, a popular observation point to witness the majestic Andean condors in flight.

Day 1: Visit to the Colca Canyon
Hotel pick-up to board the vehicle heading to the Colca Canyon: 7:45 – 08:15 a.m. Departure to Chivay. We will start our journey along the road to Yura, where we will admire the landscape. We will then skirt the Chachani volcano and pass through the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve until we reach Pampa Cañahuas. Here, the guide will provide information about the flora and fauna of the area, and we will appreciate the natural habitat of the South American camelids, including the VICUÑA. Continuing the journey, we will make a stop in Patahuasi (house on the heights) for some free time for shopping. We will then proceed to the wetlands, where we will observe different species of birds, both local and migratory depending on the season. We will continue to Patapampa, the highest point of the trip located at approximately 4920 meters above sea level. It is also known as the Mirador de los Andes, where we can see different volcanoes such as HualcaHualca, Sabancaya, Ampato, and Ubinas.
Day 2: Cruz del Cóndor - Chivay - Arequipa
Around 06:00 a.m. After having breakfast, we will head towards the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where we can observe the majestic flight of the condors and the depth of the canyon. On the way, we will make a stop in the town of YANQUE to observe its colonial church, Wititi dances, and the traditional costume of the area. On our way back to Chivay, we will visit the towns of PINCHOLLO, MACA, and ACHOMA. The guide will explain their different customs, as well as show us the miniature models, colonial churches, and Andean terraces.
